Description

For sample persons ages 18-44 in 1991 and ages 12-21 in 1992, COKXLIFE reports how many times the person has used cocaine in her/his life. Responses were grouped into categories. The categories and universes differ across samples. Please see the comparability tab for more information.
This variable is part of a series of questions on drug and alcohol use in 1991 and youth risk behavior in 1992. In 1991, persons filled this survey supplement out themselves because of the potentially personal nature of the questions included in the supplement. The interviewer was available to provide assistance if requested. The supplement includes detailed questions about cocaine (COKABUSEYR), marijuana (MJABUSEYR), and general questions about use of hallucinogens, inhalants, heroin, painkillers, sedatives, stimulants, and tranquilizers.

Comparability

In 1991 COKXLIFE was only asked of sample persons ages 18-44. In 1992 the question was included as part of the Youth Risk Behavior supplement and asked of sample persons ages 12-21. The grouping of response categories changes between samples as well. Data users may choose to use frequencies from both years, but should not make comparisons across samples.
