Description

For sample adults who are of Hispanic origin, MOMORIGIN reports the respondent's mother's ethnic identification. Response categories include Puerto Rican, Cuban, Cuban American, Mexican/Mexicano, Mexican American, Chicano, Hispano, Other Latin American, Other Spanish or Hispanic, American, Anglo American, or other. Respondents who selected more than one category of Hispanic/Latino origin were categorized as Multiple Hispanic.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
