Description

For respondents age 18 who have ever smoked at a pipe at least 50 times, and who do not smoke a pipe now, this variable indicates if the respondent smoked a pipe not at all (IPUMS NHIS recode of "1") or some days (IHIS recode "2").

 

A pipe was respondent-defined.

Comparability

This variable is only available for 1991.
