Description

For all persons aged 18 and over (1993-1996) who had a job or business last month and sample persons aged 18 and over (1997-2003) who were working or were temporarily absent from a job or business last week; and sample persons aged 18 and over (2004 onward) who were working or temporarily absent from a job or business last week, or who had ever worked, NUMEMP reports the number of employees at all of the person's work sites.

Comparability

Changes in the universe affect raw frequencies and the comparability of the variable. Users should take caution when comparing this variable between 1993-1996 and 1997 onward. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1993: Persons aged 18+ in quarters 3 and 4 who had a job or business last month
  • 1994-1996: Persons aged 18+ who had a job or business last month
  • 1997-2003: Sample adults aged 18+ who were working or were temporarily absent from a job or business last week.
  • 2004-2014: Sample adults aged 18+ were working or temporarily absent from a job or business last week, or who had ever worked.
