Description
For sample persons ages 18-44, MJSOCPROBYP is a recoded variable that reports the one year prevalence of any social problems of marijuana use or if, in the past 12 months, the person ever had social problems because of her/his marijuana use. Persons who reported never using marijuana or last using marijuana over 12 months ago in previous questions were recorded as responding "no".
This recoded variable is based on responses to questions about being high at work or school, being high while taking care of one's home or family, skipping work or school because high on marijuana, experiencing problems at work or school or with the police because of marijuana use, failed to take care of one's family because high on marijuana, experiencing problems with family or friends because of marijuana use, or driving a motor vehicle while high on marijuana.
This variable is part of a series of questions on drug and alcohol use. Sample persons filled this survey supplement out themselves because of the potentially personal nature of the questions included in the supplement. The interviewer was available to provide assistance if requested. The supplement includes detailed questions about cocaine (COKABUSEYR), marijuana (MJABUSEYR), and general questions about use of hallucinogens, inhalants, heroin, painkillers, sedatives, stimulants, and tranquilizers.
