Description

For sample female adults ages 18 and older whose menstrual periods have stopped permanently for reasons other than surgery, MENSAGERFLAG reports whether the reported age at which the respondent's menstrual period stopped (MENSLAGE) is a reasonable value (categorized as menopause onset between the ages of 40 and 59). Menopause before age 40 or after age 59 are flagged as potentially unreasonable values.

MENSAGERFLAG was first introduced in 1987 as part of a supplement on cancer epidemiology. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
