Description
For sample adults age 18 years and older, LIFTDAILY reports their usual daily activities related to lifting or carrying things. Interviewers asked, "Which of the following best describes your usual daily activities related to lifting or carrying things? Do not include activities done in your leisure time." If necessary, the interviewer added, "Pick the one you do most often." Response categories included "Not lift or carry things very often," "Lift or carry light loads," "Lift or carry moderate loads," "Lift or carry heavy loads," "Unable to lift or carry loads," and "Other."
The field representative's manual states that "DAILY activities may include work, housework if you are a homemaker, going to and attending classes if you are a student, and what you normally do throughout a typical day if you are retired or unemployed." It also states that LIFTDAILY "Refers to which best describes your usual daily activities related to lifting or carrying things. It is up to the respondent to decide whether the lifting he or she does is light, moderate, or heavy. There are no standardized objective weight criteria to provide for them."
