Description

For persons with chronic conditions reporting activity limitations in 1969-1971 and for persons reporting activity limitations in 1972 forward, LATP reports the time period (in months or years) of the activity limitations. This variable should be used in conjunction with LANO, which reports the corresponding number of time units.

This variable was introduced in 1969 as part of a series of variables related to the difficulty of doing various activities due to a physical/mental condition, the use of help from others to carry on such activities, and the number of years this difficulty has persisted. Comparability

Slight changes in the universe may lead to comparability problems over time. Before 1972, this question was asked of persons who had a chronic condition and who reported an activity limitation. Beginning in 1972, this question was asked of all persons who reported an activity limitation, regardless of whether or not they reported a chronic condition. However, despite this universe change, frequencies suggest that this variable is largely comparable across years.
