Description
For persons who did not have continuous health insurance coverage in the past year (i.e., except those who are currently insured and have been insured for more than one year with no changes), HISTATEYR reports that the person without continuous coverage had state-sponsored health insurance coverage in the past 12 months.
Persons could be in one of three categories of non-continuous coverage in the past year. If the person was uninsured at the time of the survey, interviewers asked what type of coverage the person most recently had. If the person had a period without coverage in the past year, interviewers asked what type of coverage before this period. If person had a change in coverage in the past year, interviewers asked what type of coverage prior to the change in coverage.
This variable can be used to monitor the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
