Description

For all families, HIPAYMEDBIL reports if they or anyone in their family had (at the time of the survey) any medical bills that were being paid off over time. This included medical bills being paid off with a credit card, through personal loans, or bill-paying arrangements with hospitals or other providers. It also included bills from earlier years that were still being paid.

This variable can be used to monitor the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
