Description
For sample persons ages 18-44, COKSOCPROBYP reports if, in the past 12 months, the person ever experienced social consequences from cocaine use. This is a recoded variable based on responses to survey questions regarding whether any of the following situations occurred as a result of using cocaine: being high at work or school; being high while taking care of one's home or family; skipping work or school; having problems with work, school or the police; failing to take care of one's home or family because of being high; having problems with family or friends; driving a car or vehicle within one hour of using cocaine; and feeling depressed, uninterested, suspicious, or distrustful of people. Persons who reported never using cocaine or last using cocaine over 12 months ago in previous questions were recorded as responding no.
This variable is part of a series of questions on drug and alcohol use. Respondents filled this survey supplement out themselves because of the potentially personal nature of the questions included in the supplement. The interviewer was available to provide assistance if requested. The supplement includes detailed questions about cocaine (COKABUSEYR), marijuana (MJABUSEYR), and general questions about use of hallucinogens, inhalants, heroin, painkillers, sedatives, stimulants, and tranquilizers.
