Description
For sample adults, CHRFATIGEV reports if respondents ever had chronic fatigue syndrome. In 2008, this term was respondent defined and the condition did not have to be diagnosed by a health professional. In 2021, respondents were specifically asked if they were told by a doctor or other health professional.
In 2008, the question for the variable CHRFATIGEV was part of the adult conditions section. In 2021, it was added to the rotating conditions section.
Related Variables
A similar variable is available for children for 2007 (FATIGUEYR), had fatigue in the past 12 months.
In 2021, respondents who responded yes to the CHRFATIGEV were asked the follow-up question: Do you still have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) (CFSSTILL)?
Comparability
Starting in 2021, a diagnosis was required for this condition.
