CHOLCHEKNO reports the number of (time) units sample adults stated when answering the open-ended question, "About how long has it been since you had your blood cholesterol checked by a doctor, nurse, or other health professional?" CHOLCHEKNO must be interpreted in conjunction with CHOLCHEKTP, which reports the type of time unit (days, weeks, months, or years) sample adults used when answering this same question.
For 2003, the National Center for Health Statistics also recoded these data into years in the variable CHOLCHEKYR, which reports the number of years since sample adults last had their blood cholesterol checked by a doctor, nurse, or other health professional.
