Codes and Frequencies
Description
For sample adults, BURGSIZ reports the portion size (small, medium, or large) eaten each time the respondent ate hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or meatloaf. A medium-sized portion was defined as ¼ pound. Researchers may wish to use BURGSIZ in conjunction with BURGNO, which reports the frequency with which the respondent ate hamburger, and BURGTP, which reports the corresponding time unit.
BURGSIZ is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
