According to the 2018 Sample Adult Layout File, before being asked whether a doctor or health professional had ever told them about home blood stool/FIT tests, respondents were told "The following questions are about another type of test to check for colon cancer -- the blood stool or occult test, or fecal immunochemical or FIT test, tests to determine whether you have blood in your stool or bowel movement. These tests can be done at home using a kit. You use a stick or brush to obtain a small amount of stool at home and send it back to the doctor or lab."
