Description

For sample adults and children in 2012 who had ever used biofeedback (BIOEV) but had either not seen a practitioner for biofeedback in the past 12 months or had never seen a practitioner for biofeedback, BIOUSEYR reports whether they used biofeedback in the past 12 months.

Biofeedback was one of many alternative health treatment modalities included in the Alternative Health Supplements.

Definitions

The 2012 Field Representative's Manual defines biofeedback as:

Biofeedback uses simple electronic devices to teach clients how to consciously regulate bodily functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure, in order to improve overall health. Biofeedback is used to reduce stress, eliminate headaches, recondition injured muscles, control asthmatic attacks, and relieve pain.

Field representatives were advised to "feel free to offer [this definition] even if the respondent has not requested [it]."
