Description
For sample adults and sample children who have used a quick relief prescription asthma inhaler in the past three months, ASTHRESTYP reports the type of rescue prescription asthma medication the person used most often. Both an inhaler and a disk inhaler are very portable canisters or devices used to inhale medication in one or two breaths. A nebulizer is a machine that turns liquid medication into a mist that you inhale into the lungs over a few minutes.
Data users looking at NCHS documentation should be aware that in 2013 there was an error in labels for sample children. NCHS confirmed that the same labels applied for sample adults should be applied for sample children: 1 - Inhaler or disk and 2 - Nebulizer. IPUMS NHIS displays the correct labels and frequencies. This issue was not present in 2018 forward.
